OBJECTIVES
To provide a platform for leaders and pastors to engage on matters related to organizational leadership issues in the local churches.

To help the leadership gain a theological, biblical and Methodist understanding of the church as the basis for church governance and people relationships.

At the end of the training, leaders are expected to:
Understand the various church governance models and the distinctiveness of the Methodist tradition.
Integrate the process of discipleship as the foundation to spiritual leadership
Respond to conflicts in people relationships from the perspective of Christ’s call to the church towards the ministry of reconciliation and restoration.
Engage in continuous dialogues with fel low leaders and pastors in the outworking of the roles unique to the local situation of church life.
Evaluate, monitor and facilitate efficient and time-conscious meetings that bring life to the decision-making process of church meetings.
Integrate an intentional discernment process into key matters leading to spiritual oversight and direction of church life.

MODULE CONTENT/SYLLABUS
SESSION 1
The Church - The Big Picture of the Body of Christ

This session will set the tone and framework for the meaning of church from a biblical, theological and Methodist distinctive. It will provide an overview of the body of Christ and the various church governance models with their implications for spiritual leadership as well as ministry direction and approaches.

SESSION 2
The Church-The Rhyme & Rhythm of the Heart in Spiritual Leadership

This session will help address the crucial need for leaders to understand the foundation of spiritual leadership and discipleship-making.
It will also cover the importance and dynamics of dealing with people issues as a call of Christ to the church towards the ministry of reconciliation.
Some practical issues related to handling conflict and dealing with life baggages will be discussed.

SESSION 3
The Church-The Nuts & Bolts of the Organizational Structure

This session will address practical issues related to the organizational structure unique to the Methodist church and provided for by the Methodist Book of Discipline.
Issues to be discussed will include the role of pastors and LCEC in spiritual oversight, the rationale and out-working of Pastor-Parish Relations Committee (PPRC), the place of Pastoral Care Team (PCT), the crucial role of the Nominations Committee, the roles of SG Leaders and Ministry Leaders in relation to LCEC, etc.
This session will provide opportunities for dialogue and interaction to clarify the mechanisms in light of the needs and uniqueness of the local church.

SESSION 4
The Church - The Handles for Life-Giving Meetings & Decision-Making

This session will provide some practical tips on running effective, efficient and life-giving meetings within a church setting. It will deal with issues related to the role of prayer and discernment, both for individual and community towards healthier decision-making. Other areas to be included are taking stock of the way meetings have been conducted in the past and post-decision ethics - including how to handle the dissenting voices of the minority and ethical aspects of leaders.
