Spiritual Formation in the Church – What Does This Look Like?
This session will address these questions:
- What is spiritual formation and its place in Christian education & discipleship - What does an integrated theology and practice look like for spiritual formation, discipleship & christian education?
- Why is there so much push & pull in bringing spiritual formation to the church – what is going on?
- What is the role of the Holy Spirit in spiritual disciplines at different seasons and stages of faith in one’s life?
- What is the primary role as the shepherd & ministry leaders of the church in navigating these scenarios – both in the pull (being drawn) and push (resistance) in spiritual formation in the church?
- What are some practical models & first steps for consideration?
This session is limited to pastors & ministry staff only. Times of discussion and conversations will be incorporated into the day of learning.

NIGHT SESSION (Open to All)
Time: 7.30 – 10.00 pm
A Public Lecture on Knowing God, Knowing Self - Integrating Theology, Psychology and Spirituality
This session will address these questions:
- How does the integration of theology, psychology and spirituality bring about spiritual transformation?
- What is spiritual theology and the role of the Holy Spirit in our transformation?
- How does the knowledge of self (both the false & true self) lead one to the knowledge of God and vice versa?
- How did the pandemic expose our limitations and self-sufficiency and shape the way we look at our life and relationship with Him and with others?
- How and why do we embrace waiting, suffering & mourning as renewed spiritual practices for the season?
This session is open to anyone who desires to grow in their life with God in this post-pandemic season.

About Rev Dr Tan Siang Yang
Rev Dr Tan Siang Yang is a Professor of Psychology at Fuller Theological Seminary in Pasadena, California. He is a licensed psychologist with a PhD in Clinical Psychology from McGill University and a Fellow of the American Psychological Association. He has published over 70 articles and authored several books on lay counselling, intrapersonal integration and spirituality, religious psychotherapy, and cross-cultural counselling including Disciplines of the Holy Spirit (with Dr Doug Gregg, Zondervan, 1997) and his latest title, Full Service, Rest: Experiencing God’s Peace in a Restless World. Dr Tan also serves as senior pastor of First Evangelical Church Glendale in Glendale, California. He lives in Pasadena with his wife, Angela, and they have two grown children, Carolyn and Andrew who is married to Jenn. He is originally from Singapore.
